Carl,

My Roo is about 3/8" nose heavy. Flying the canards keep the nose up in the turns preventing the delta-wing-tuck syndrome and the Kangaroo hop upon landing. Also on landing the canards...

THE SPEED BRAKE on my ROO bigger than plans 2.75" x 11.75"
LE location is about 10.5" ahead of CG (CG is about the LE of Robart retracts)

Joe,

I would go with the speed brake on the bottom:
1) more effective area available for drag, as well as reducing the lift generated.
2) you still have rudder control for crosswind...
