I think the 6130 is a bit light on for rudder. But also depends what class you're flying as well.

Drac, I will be flying AMA masters again when the season starts up. I can't imagine a 112oz servo not being enough power for this relitivly small rudder especially with good mechanical advantage. I can recall flying 1/3 scale IMAC airplanes with a 155oz servo on the rudder just fine. The 6130 is actually designed for sailplane ailerons and flaps, the flaps on my 3.5M sailplane have twice the surface area of a Divergent rudder and are commonly extended to 75 degrees of throw.

After a few hours of carving/sanding, the aileron bevels are done.

Closeup, today I will be glassing all 8 bevels with 3/4oz glass.

Looking good Shawn. Do you feel there is an advantage to using a double bevel compared to just beveling the aileron?

Ken, yes. The advantage is weight. With the double bevel I can use 1/8" balsa facings and then remove a good portion of it. Probably good for 15 grams of weight savings. The other good thing is that by removing the ailerons from the wing with a 1/4" router bit it's less work. Speaking of weight, I will be doing an update to the thread later today with what I think will be one of the keys to keeping things light.

I received the last of my servos today. I now have the complete flight pack that consists of 5 MKS HV69 and 2 MKS HV6100 servos, a Zepsus magnetic switch, a Gator 800mah 2S Lipo RX pack, Gator aluminum servo arms and a Hitec Optima 9 RX.

The first Divergent kit sold is ready to fly. Local customer just sent this picture to me. Full report tomorrow.

The first kit built Divergent had an uneventful maiden outing today. It's owner Russ put in 4 flights. By the second flight he was putting it through the paces.

this is a great flying airplane! Got 6 flights on it so far, practiced the first 6 figures of the Masters pattern today, really tracks well, and makes your job as a pilot easy. Was certainly worth the effort to build!

I started shooting primer on Sunday. I mixed up 200 grams and was able to get a light coat on both wings and stabs. Yesterday I was able to block out the bottom of the bottom wing. Unfortunately this is as far as I will be able to get for a while. At work today I strained my rotator cuff on the right side. Best case scenario I will be able to resume sanding in a week.

My shoulder is feeling better so I installed the motor mount.

The first step was to tack glue the mount into the nose. For this I secure the mount to the motor and get it onto place using a spinner backplate to align the motor to match the nosering which has the correct thrust angles molded in.

After piping in a paste of epoxy and milled fiber on the outer edge of the mount, a layer of 3oz cloth was applied.

Glass saturated with epoxy resin and curing.

Rear support was glued together as well.

Once the motor mount dried, I bolted in the motor and installed the rear support.

The finish work is going slowly due to rain. I did get a battery tray with integrated ESC mount built up. Looks like I will be able to remove 20-25 grams of wire from the ESC with this arrangement.

Had enough of a break in the weather to get the second application of primer on the Divergent.

Not only got all the Divergent parts primed but parts for a Reed Falcon and helicopter canopy as well.

Upper wings and stabs.

Paintwork is progressing. No new pictures until it's done. I did get my stencil package from Callie Graphics today though.

Getting close to the end. Just a few more things to do and she is ready to fly. At this stage with just a few minor items needing to be done she weighs in at 4340g. Only items missing from that weight are 8 servo screws, strut attachment screws and some wire retainers. I'm confident RTF will be right around 4400g.

Wow, 4400g. Pretty light! Seems like you shaved some weight off this model compared to the prototype. Should fly great.

Wow!
A significant improvement, esp. in weight.
IIRC the prototype was a bit on the heavy side but this weight is impressive. Consider it is a bipe!

Color scheme looks good too.
